Creating Routines While Moving Abroad

One of the important steps which can help you to feel at home in a new country whether you are moving for a short or a long time is to stick to your habitual routines or create new ones.

When you’re travelling or moving to a new country you can feel lost, confused or isolated and having a routine can definitely help you to create a sense of belonging,  establish normality or even overcome the stress of changing.

It is also a good way to make connections in your new place.

Take a look at your daily, and weekly routines and think about which one do you want to take with you on your international journey or what new routines you want to incorporate into your schedule. Remember to be flexible and gentle with yourself. When you are in a transition there is a lot on your plate and it can take some time to back to the “normality”.

What are your routines?  Maybe you like journaling in the morning or doing meditation?

What routines do you enjoy? Maybe you are bored with some of them?

What new routines can you create? My new routine, for now, is to do 5-10 min face yoga exercises in the morning and evening and I enjoy them.

What about your family members, your kids? What are their routines? How can you support them in creating routines while in a transition?

What are the must-have routines you can’t live without?

If you are a business owner what routines can help you to take care of yourself and be of service to your clients? This is very important if you are travelling with your portable or online business if you are a digital nomad or a flexpat. A new location or a new adventure can have a positive or a negative impact on you and your business so it is important to take care of yourself.

One of the routines which are helping me and my self-care is to regularly work out whether it is a 30 or 50-min workout, yoga session or a walk it helps me to feel energised and motivated during the day.

Take small and manageable steps so you can feel in control and have also some fun. Explore new possibilities. Often a new place, a new city brings new ideas and opportunities to build new and exciting routines which can help you to have a successful experience abroad.
