How To Market Yourself: Think Of Yourself As A Product

What is your best strategy to use and obtain your dream job?

In today’s job market it is not enough hoping to be employed by some company. This is an approach of an unsuccessful job seeker.

Successful job seekers think of themselves as a brand, a product. Imagine for the moment that you are a marketer and you have to promote a new personal development programme for a specific industry group. What do you do? You need to answer some questions in order to market this new product. Here are some questions that a job seeker needs to answer:

  1. What are my assets?
  2. How am I different/better than other candidates?
  3. Where do I lack skills and how will I manage employers’s perception about this area?
  4. Where are my customers (prospective employers) located?
  5. How can I best reach my customers?

Write down those answers, they can be very useful in your job search.

I am using those questions every time I am working on a new programme or I am promoting a new tool. They help me to get crystal clear about my marketing strategy. So go and take your actions.
