September is a great moment for a new start in your professional life. A lot of companies are recruiting at that time and there are more job opportunities. What can you do to start a new career, change your current job or maybe start your dream business?
Here are 5 steps that you can follow:
1. Explore your opportunities.
What would you like to do?
What kind of job are you looking for?
Would you like to get a promotion in your current job or find a new one?
What are your passions?
What is your business idea?
It’s essential first to discover your primary interests and passions. Then research your market, browse the companies’ websites, think about your role models or people you admire and think about which job /business will be your dream job.
Set a realistic date for you: When would you like to be in this position?
2. Evaluate your current situation.
Ask yourself is there anything that I must improve to get my dream job or start my dream business? If yes what is it?
What can you do about that? Start a personal development course, improve your management skills or develop leadership skills, sales and marketing skills?
Gaining skills is not an all-or-nothing proposition. You can volunteer once a week or take a night class to move forward, without quitting your current job.
3. Think about your options.
What could you do to find the job you want or start your dream business? Review and tailor your CV to get more interviews.
Where can you find that kind of job and how can you apply for it?
What can you do to apply for that position? Register with the recruitment agency, and apply directly via the company website. Check your contact, who do you know that can help you with your job research, start to join a networking group or prepare a good Linkedin profile?
In today’s economy, it might feel too risky to consider changing jobs. However, if you’re unhappy in your current position, researching other options will only benefit you in the long run.
If you are looking to start your own business or you have a business idea that you want to take to the next level ask yourself: What could I do that would move you one step closer to achieving my goal?
4. Prepare an action plan.
Looking for a new job or starting a business is a job and preparing a good action plan will make it easier for you. When will be a good time for you to search for a job or start a business? It will be in the morning or the evening?
If you are working right now how can you fit in with your working hours? How many hours would you like to spend on your job search or business development activities?
Write your action plan down on paper and review it every day to check your progress. Think about what was successful for you in the past and search for advice if you are stuck.
5. Keep your motivation up.
Looking for a new job or starting work at what you love requires a substantial time investment and it does not happen all at once. In the meantime, you can lose your motivation and energy. And your self-esteem can get lower. Be your cheerleader, keep encouraging yourself
