We all have problems, we experience challenges with our time management and we all want to do, achieve more in less time. So what are the steps, strategies to manage the time well?
1. Think about the future. Create a vision. When you imagine yourself 90 days from now, do you know where your business, career, life will be? All successful leaders think about the future, what they want to accomplish and how they are going to achieve it. So let’s pretend to be a leader and create your vision. You can ask yourself what do you want to accomplish in the next 3, 6 or 12 months and write it down or if you prefer you can create a vision board.
2. Separate urgent from important. Brain Tracy in his book “Goals! How to get everything you want – faster than you ever thought possible” is describing urgent tasks as one that must be done immediately, important task – can contribute to long-term vision (like planning, organizing, researching, setting priorities), urgent but not important task – do not produce a result. What are your urgent tasks? Start with them and then with the important one.
3. When to plan. You can plan in the evening before sleep, first thing in the morning, do a weekly review with yourself or your team, you can do a monthly review or 90-day planning meeting. Think on paper and revisit your plan to make it better and better.
4. Have a clear strategy and plan of action. It will automatically motivate you! Each time you complete a task you will experience a burst of enthusiasm and your self-esteem will grow.
5. Identify your distractions. What’s stopping you from getting to where you want to go? What are your distractions? Start by identifying what it is that’s eating up your time. Once you’ve worked out what it is that’s using your time, you can decide on a strategy to deal with it.
6. The best question in all time management is: “What is the most valuable use of my time right now?” Focus on the most valuable use of your time and you will be successful.
7. Expect failure. No plan is perfect at the beginning. Most of them fail. Your ability to accept feedback and revisit your plan will help you to achieve success. Ask yourself what is working for you and what is not working?
8. Reward yourself. Every time you achieve your goal, your first step which will take you closer to your long-term vision remember to reward yourself. This will keep your motivation up and increase your energy to go forward. How are you going to reward yourself?
