During the last months, weeks and days I have been thinking about the change of direction in my business. I have been constantly asking myself which path should I follow, what should I do.
Should I help international professionals with their career change or should I focus more on helping expats to start up their own business? I know that my business vision has changed over the past years and I am aware that it is a part of every entrepreneur’s journey. But I have been thinking about taking my business to a different level for a while and believe me it can make you feel frustrated. Things can get even more complicated when you live and run your business abroad.
If you are in the same position like me, you are thinking about changing something in your career and business but you are not sure which direction you should go or if the change is right for you, in today’s post you will find 5 steps which will help you to evaluate your next steps.
1. What is the vision of your business or career for the next six months? What do you want to achieve? Describe your ideal business or career vision in details. What will you be doing? What is your perfect job position? How many clients do you want to serve? What kind of service are you going to provide? Let your imagination run wild. These questions may seem simple to you but there are many people that have the difficulty in answering them.
2. What is your current business/career situation? Describe what is happening now in your professional life? What are you currently doing? How the current situation sound/feel/look like to you? How satisfied are you with your business/career now? Evaluate your reality so you can see how far are you from your ideal vision.
3. What are your options? List down all the options, ideas, thoughts you have about your business or career path. What do you want to change? What will be the consequences of implementing those ideas or staying where are you now? Which option are you enthusiastic about? How ready are you to take actions and start doing changes in your professional life?
4. What actions are you going to take? Go through your lists of options again and choose those you want to go for. Are you going to change your services, your target market, launch new programme, change your job, ask for a promotion…. ? What steps are you going to take so you can make your ideas a reality? What is your plan? How motivated are you to follow this plan?
5. Who can support you? There was and there will be a time in my business and career when I really didn’t know what to do, what service should I offer, what is my target market or even in which language I should coach. I asked for help my mentor, I asked her what should I do. You don’t have to have a mentor or a coach, you can ask your role model or someone you trust.
I am sure you will find your next direction whether you are thinking about your business or changing your career path. Keep things simple. Follow your intuition. Take small steps and sometimes take risks. Make mistakes and enjoy your journey.
