Take The Pressure Off Yourself

This year I decided to spend more time outside and less time on my laptop. I made an intention to go for a walk once per week. You see, during the last years of working on my business, I was constantly focused on new projects, growing my business and working on my business. And there is nothing wrong with that.

However, I found myself feeling that there was less fun in my life. Instead, there was this pressure to always do something in my business. I was constantly looking to improve myself or to improve my business.

I was enrolling in new courses, implementing new marketing techniques, running a blog, hosting a podcast, workshops, challenges, new programmes.  Always in a rush.  I was saying to myself that this is a part of building a business, that this is a normal way of operating.

In the coaching industry, there is this need to fix yourself, to improve yourself or to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Or to follow someone more successful than you. I love personal development industry but sometimes I think you can put a lot of pressure on yourself.

It is because you are starting your own dream business and you want it to be successful, or you want to leave your soul-sucking job. You can have your family expecting from you to achieve specific goals in your life and you do not want to disappoint them.

Today I want you to take this pressure off.

Here are some steps that can help you with that:

1. Get clear on your true desires. What do you want from your life? How do you want your career or business to look like? A few years ago I convinced myself that if I want to be successful in my business I need to look and create the same kind of lifestyle as a coach I was admiring at that time. I ended up feeling bad about myself but then I asked myself: Do you want this kind of lifestyle? And the answer was No.

2. Grow your business/career in your way. Create a career/business in alignment with your true self. How authentic do you feel about your decisions, actions, goals or visions? Sometimes when you follow strategies of others you can end up creating career/business which is congruent with the vision of others, not ours. You can create your own personalised business or career development plan.

3. Enjoy your time off. Every week allocate some time for you. It can be going for a walk, watching a film, cooking a new meal, having a massage, whatever is best for you. And do not feel guilty about it. You deserve it! It will help you to gain your energy back and have a new and fresh perspective on your goals and plans.

4. Compare yourself to yourself. Become aware of your successes. Compare yourself to the last year version of yourself if you need to compare to someone. Make a weekly or monthly list of your achievements, even the smallest one. You will be surprised at how much you have done.

5. Delegate. This is something that I am still working on. Last year I decided to delegate my blog posting and scheduling to someone else so I could have more time to focus on different projects or having more time for myself. What small tasks can you delegate to have more time in your daily life?
