Is Career Coaching REALLY Working?

Have you ever thought about hiring a career coach to help you move forward in your career? Did you experience coaching in your professional or personal life? Are you asking yourself if career coaching or any type of coaching is REALLY working? This is a very challenging question!

Coaching is a second growing profession in the world and there are many coaches out there who are willing to help you with your relationships, diet, time management, writing books, money management… You can find YOUR coach for any problem, goal, challenge you are facing right now. When I first thought about that it was a little bit SCARY for me! Why I am a coach as well? The fact is that there are so many misinterpretations about coaching and career coaching itself, that we can sometimes come to the wrong conclusion. But let’s come back to the point: Is career coaching really working? It is worth investing in coaching?

My answer is YES but here I would like to specify that YOU as a coachee  (a person who receives training/coaching from a coach) need to commit to and trust the process.  If you are thinking that you will find a job, change a career, open a business after only one session you are wrong.

It actually takes about 8 to 10 hours of coaching for the typical client to begin internalizing the key benefits of coaching. If you are thinking that a coach will find you a job, you are WRONG again. In a coaching session, you can relax a little bit, looking for a new job or following your passion can be stressful, in coaching you can discuss those challenging emotions (anxiety, fear and vulnerability) to better understand your situation, overcome your obstacles, get unstuck.

I personally took part in a lot of sessions as a client (not a coach) which helped me in my career, business, personal life. I achieved my goals although I am still working and learning.  I came from a psychological background and I have to say that I had a lot of doubts about coaching at the beginning (as a psychologist). However, I was committed to my goals, open and willing to trust myself and the process and look at everything from a different (positive) perspective which was very motivating.

There is a saying that Every successful person has a coach, a mentor. I think it is true, so go and find your coach, mentor or counsellor.

I want to hear your opinion! Do you think that career coaching is working? What is your experience with coaching?
