How To Get Clarity When You Are Confused And Do Not Know What To Do

On the last day of the year, I and my partner went to the beach to celebrate the last sunset of 2015. This ceremony is organised every year by the local community. While the sun was going down and we were talking with some of the people, I was saying goodbye to 2015. You see I didn’t want this year to be finished. Although I was excited about the New Year and new upcoming opportunities I was asking myself what I really want to do?

Recently there are some things in the coaching industry which I do not like and I find them really boring. I was starting the New Year in total confusion. However looking on the positive side, being confused is the beginning of something new. If you are at the same point, you feel confused and bored, here are 5 steps to help you find clarity about your next steps in the professional or personal life:

1. Exercise. You can ask yourself what exercising has to do with getting clarity? Taking a regular exercise, at least 3 times per week, will give you energy. You will feel much more motivated, happy and relaxed. Your brain will be stimulated, your stress level and anxiety will decrease. What exercises can you start to do today?

2. Write it down. Ask yourself how do you want your life to look like in 2016? How do you want your career and business to look like? Write your vision down on the paper and read it every morning before starting your work. You can share your vision with your support group, your mentor or the person you trust. Writing down and sharing your vision increase your commitment to it and your inner responsibility for your actions.

3. Do an inventory of your favourite tasks. Write down a list of skills you enjoy using, not the one you are good at, and things you like to do. If you are thinking about changing your job or starting your own business this exercise can help you to understand what is your true calling. Remember it has to be something actionable, not a passive like watching TV. Go and write down 10 skills you enjoy using and things you like to do.

4. Ask for help. Sometimes the best thing to do is to get support. You can talk with someone you trust about your challenges, your support group, your mentor or coach.

5. Accept the change. Often we get confused because we don’t want to accept the change in our life, business or career. Confusion is a part of the personal growth and change can be scary, or we don’t want to upset someone. If you are at the crossroads in your career or business you are growing, and your career and business are growing and changing with you.
