I am currently working with a client and we are improving her LinkedIn profile. So I thought it will be good for you to refresh your online visibility. You see, I am a big fan of LinkedIn. It is a fantastic tool to look for a new job, make new connections or developing your own business.
Here are some resources and tips which will help you to improve your online visibility, not only on LinkedIn.
- An old video of mine which is worth rewatching, if you want to build your LinkedIn profile. Click here to watch the video.
- I also recommend you listen to the interview with Margaret Buj, Interview and Career Coach, in which she is sharing her tips about how to get noticed on LinkedIn. Click here to listen to the podcast.
- When writing your summary profile think about:
a). Who is your audience?
b). What can people learn about you?
- Show your accomplishments.
Do not describe only your job responsibilities but highlight your accomplishments. What have you done for the company? Did you win any awards as an employee of the month or the year? Put it on your profile.
For example, if you have experience in customer service:
Effectively managed and responded to over 300 calls for information in one day, without any complaints from callers
Resolved customer complaints by identifying problems and taking appropriate corrective action – Resulting in a 20% increase in the department’s efficiency.
- Share your content. If you have a business and you are running a blog share your content on LinkedIn. It will make you more visible to your potential audience, increase traffic to your website
- Join groups on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. Join groups which are connected with your interests. For example, I am part of a few groups on LinkedIn related to coaching, career change and women in the business industry. What kind of group can you join today?
- Follow the companies you want to work for so you can be up to date with any potential job openings and all the information about the organisation.
- Grow your network and ask your connections to be introduced to the key people in your industry or organisation you want to be part of. Remember to ask people who are your first-degree connections, and those who are directly connected with you.
- Explore different career, and job search apps and websites. Here is an interesting article about top career apps: Top Career Apps
- Get out of your comfort zone. Getting visible online, especially when you are running a business can be challenging. The most common fear is being afraid of what others will think about me. Remember you are not for everyone and you never know who can be inspired by you.
