Do you know what are your skills, gifts, or interest? Do you know what skills you enjoy using, not those you are good at? Have you been looking to discover your true calling, your passion, or your mission? If you are an expat or an expat partner and you are thinking about a career change, your next career step or maybe starting your own business, it can be very helpful for you to look at your skills and gifts.
In today’s post, you will explore 9 places to search for your skills, gifts, or interests so you can be clear on what you want. And clarity is the first step to your success.
1. How do you use your leisure time? What activities do you like doing in your free time? Sports, what kind of sports? Do you like reading? What kind of books or magazines grab your attention?
2. What would you rather be doing? What do you do for fun? What kind of activities do you enjoy outside of your daily work?
3. What are you passionate about now?
4. What inspires you these days?
5. What past passions have you lost touch with? What did you love doing when you were 7, 13, 18, or 24? Reconnect with your inner child. Did you like to draw? Do you like to play music? Or did you like to help other children with their homework? Or maybe you were creating some new inventions?
6. When you have been so absorbed that you didn’t notice the passing of time? What were you doing? What kind of activities? Writing, helping people, designing a website, organizing an event for your friend…
7. Who do you envy? In a positive way of course? Who is your role model and what he/she is doing? What aspects of their life or work you are attracted to? What kind of job they are doing? What kind of business they are running?
8. What people are complimenting you about? Listen to the compliments. What people are telling you? Did they like your cake, how do you organize your time, how do you write your blogs? Compliments are like clues, so listen carefully to them. If you don’t know what are you good at, pick three people you respect and ask them to tell you what they believe your strengths are.
9. What are your natural gifts and talents? What comes naturally to you? Very often we take those gifts, skills, or activities for granted. We may even think that there is nothing special in those gifts and tasks, and that is also simple for others. It can be very misleading. Take a moment and make a list of 5 things, activities, and tasks that are very simple for you, for example, organizing files, writing a copy, networking or making connections, and helping others choose an outfit. Go and make your list. And you may be surprised that some of these activities may be difficult for others.
Our greatest satisfaction tends to come from doing what we love. So take some time to answer those simple questions above and you will get clear about your passions. When we do what we love we lose ourselves, we feel motivated and energized and we take action with enthusiasm.
