5 Ways To Spring Clean Your Career In March

Spring is approaching, flowers are blooming slowly and trees are getting greener. Spring comes early to Italy and for that reason, I am happy that my rainy days in the UK and cold mornings in Poland are far away (for some time) from me. Spring is also associated with cleaning, cleaning your home, looking in your wardrobe for lighter clothes, and changing something in yourself, like a new haircut. It is also a time to spring clean your career, think about a new challenge, get a promotion, move to a new country for a new assignment or start a new business adventure. If you are in a spring cleaning mood and you want to change something in your professional life, here are the 5 ways to spring clean your career in March.

1. Your future you. What is your ideal career vision? Where do you see yourself in 6 months’ time? What will you be doing? What kind of life do you want to live? The first step is to start with a life and career vision. I suggest you create a dream vision of your career and life. It will help you to get crystal clear about your goals.

2. Your future career. Write your own job description or describe your own business idea. How many hours are you working? What kind of job are you doing? Who are you working with? Who are your clients? What are your financial goals? What will be your responsibilities? Imagine that your future employer is asking you to map out your job description or you need to write down your business plan.

3. Your action plan. I like preparing action plans. Although I do not always follow them and I do not achieve all the goals, it is a great tool to measure my progress. What steps can you take today to get your dream job? Maybe you need to update your CV or improve your interview skills. If you are starting in business maybe you are thinking about your marketing plan or testing your business idea first. Write down your own career spring cleaning plan.

4. Your fears and obstacles. There is no doubt you will meet some obstacles on your way or you will be scared of your change. Follow your fears. If you are a fan of Marie Forleo TV, in her last episode she was talking about following your fears, not your passions. If you are scared of your vision, career change plans, or business project, but there is this silent voice in your head saying you go for it, then just go for it. It is the right direction for you. Of course, do not jump off the cliff, but elaborate on your strategy.

5. Your slow downtime. If you feel overwhelmed with all the possibilities or tasks you have, the best thing to do is to slow down. I am implementing this approach in my life and business. I must admit it is a challenge for me as I am a fast action-taker. However, slowing down will allow you to speed up in the future. If you need more time to speak with your client, do it. If you need more time to update your CV, do it. If you need more time to answer an email do it. Focus on your priorities first and allow yourself all the time you need to complete them.

Whether you think it is time to spring clean your career or you want to make some small changes in your professional life, these simple steps will help you to take a fresh look on your professional life and make some positive and effective changes.
